Montlouis-sur-Loire faces Vouvray across the river, a wine-appellation town ten minutes from Tours. It is anchored by Château de la Bourdaisière, one of the best-known château-hotels of the valley, with its famous gardens and vaulted François Ier hall. A zone we would love to photograph.
For a photographer Montlouis is gardens and vaulted stone: the Bourdaisière's boxwood parterre and rose garden for the portraits, its three-hundred-seat vaulted hall for the evening. Just up the Cher at Athée, Château de Nitray sets a Renaissance château on a working vineyard above the valley.
It sits about an hour from home, in the Loire Valley we cover with no travel surcharge, and the venues here court international couples in several languages.
